Professor David J Kirkland

Professor Kirkland was appointed a member in April 2009. He has 30 years experience in genetic toxicology testing for industry. He has been involved in test guideline development as an expert to OECD and through chairing the steering committee of the International Workshops on Genotoxicity Testing (IWGT), and as such is knowledgeable in all aspects of in vitro and in vivo testing.  He has been particularly active in highlighting the lack of predictivity of existing in vitro tests, and in directing research to develop more accurate in vitro tests.   He worked for Covance (and its predecessor companies) for 19 years but left to set up his own consulting business the end of June 2009.
